“I’m not good with words, but I speak in colours.”
This is how Olivia Stocheci, a talented visual artist from Bucharest, defines herself. Painting has always been her passion, which she pursued at the “Nicolae Tonitza” art highschool and, later on, at the National University of Arts in Bucharest.
Although an introvert in her daily life, in Olivia’s eyes you can feel a familiar warmth, that she successfully transcribes on canvas. She loves colour painting and experimenting with various styles (expresionism, symbolism), as well as various materials (acrylics, oil paints) or tools (spatula, brush, fingers)… Her playful style draws your look towards a painting, but what keeps you there it’s her attention to details. In every painting, you will meet symbols and elements which will transport you onto a dreamland, be it a falling star, personified nature or the intensely coloured birds’ feathers.
Her inspiration source? Dreams. Some times, she creates in her dream all of the symbols and colours that she turns into a painting later on. Other times, she gets her inspiration from nature, especially exotic animal and plants. Don’t be surprised if you’re visiting one of her virtual exhibits and, suddenly, you will feel like you’re in a tropical garden: proud peacocks showing off their royal tails, butterlies resting on colourful flowers, white, red, purple and blue wild poppies.
She can work on one painting for several sessions, depending on its size and complexity. With her specific attention to details, Olivia looks over each centimetre of that canvas, making sure the shapes and colours are exactly as she envisioned them.
„What I really want is to send an emotion, a feeling, an idea hidden behind symbols, that the viewer can then decipher in a thousand ways. Painting is not just something I do, it’s who I am.”
